What We Do

For 90 years, since 1936, together we’ve made a difference – now we need YOUR support to keep going.

On September 23, 1936, the Wynnewood Civic Association (the WCA) filed its non-profit articles of incorporation with the Pennsylvania Department of State. Since that date, the WCA has advocated for your interests as residents of this beautiful community.  Along the way, we’ve faced zoning and development challenges that might have destroyed other civic associations due to the complex nature of those challenges.  But not the WCA.  We have always known that as stewards of a community with a rich history, we have an obligation to preserve that which makes this area special.  From our tree-lined streets to our architecturally important housing stock, to our amazing history of being one of the first railroad suburbs, we have long been an area where people want to live and work.

In the past few years, we have faced an incredibly difficult and expensive zoning challenge regarding the construction of a lighted athletic stadium on Arnold Field.  Our priority was always twofold:

  • Allowing Arnold Field to be lit so our children could play sports under the lights.
  • And protecting the surrounding neighbors from having their lives upended by an athletic stadium that could have operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This complex zoning case took five years and literally hundreds of hours of our time and our lawyers’ time to resolve.

We were delighted when the case finally settled, with an excellent result, but we were chagrined that the outcome could have been achieved in the first six months after the issue arose if we had a school district and school district superintendent willing to negotiate a resolution without resort to litigation. But we didn’t. We had adversaries willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of your school taxes to reach a result that could have been obtained in the first six months.

When an issue like this emerges that threatens the character, safety, and long-term wellbeing of our neighborhood, the WCA steps up – researching, organizing, showing up at meetings and advocating without stop on behalf of us all.

Please know our voice — and your voice– made an impact.  Your participation changed the conversation.  And your civic association devoted every resource it fundraised (more than $200K) to make sure OUR voices were heard.

Because we spent the entire budget for more than five years on this urgent advocacy campaign, we now ask for your support to help us rebuild our operating funds so we can continue the work that keeps Wynnewood informed and connected.

WHY YOUR CONTRIBUTION MATTERS NOW

Even in years without major advocacy campaigns, the WCA provides essential services that keep our community thriving.  We maintain an online presence to update the community, support beautification efforts such as planting flowers at the Wynnewood Train Station garden, and organize programs that strengthen our sense of community, history and belonging.

But without renewed dues and additional donations to recognize our 90 years of action, we cannot continue these efforts in the months ahead.

OUR URGENT REQUEST

We are asking every household to:

  • Renew your annual dues of $50.
  • Consider an additional contribution of $90 –or more — in recognition of the historic nature of 2026 for the WCA.  All Dues and Contributions can be made via Zeffy. Or sent with a check to our PO Box: Wynnewood Civic, PO Box 25, Wynnewood, PA, 19096

Every dollar helps continue our mission: preserving that which makes Wynnewood special while fostering the warm, connected community we all treasure.

With gratitude and thanks.
